At West Seattle Family Dentistry, our dentists make custom teeth whitening trays that allow you to lighten your teeth in the comfort of your own home.
Your teeth naturally darken over time. The outer layer of your tooth, the enamel, gets thinner from normal wear and lets the inner layer, the dentin, show through. This inner layer is naturally darker and more yellow than the enamel you are used to seeing.
The dentist uses carbamide peroxide to lighten this inner layer. Whitening toothpaste and brushes will remove surface stains, but have trouble getting deeper into the tooth. A 30 min application of teeth whitening gel is the best way to achieve long-term results. However, most people notice a gradual darkening after initial bleaching and you will want to touch up your smile every 12-18 months.
Q: Will teeth bleaching hurt my teeth?
A: No. However the peroxide will cause your teeth to dehydrate, making them more sensitive. As your teeth re-hydrate the sensitivity will subside.
Q: How do I bleach my teeth?
A: Put a thin ribbon of material in each tray and put the tray in your mouth to cover your teeth. Wipe off excess from gums. Leave in for 30 min. Visit our office in Seattle, WA or call us to learn more about our dentistry services.
